From final assessments, end of year exhibitions and alumni degree shows, late May / early June is a hectic time in CAPetc… land and this year has been no exception. Anyway more of our 2019 graduating artists in our next post but for now lets have a look at our amazing alumni and their fantastic degree shows.
As you might know we have been offline for a while and there is a lot to catch up on, so much as we’d like to, there is little time to do an in depth review of the degree shows so please click on all the links below including the artists names for more info on the individuals practice. There are also links to press reviews and the official degree show pages.
On Friday it was over to Glasgow and former home of Stow Further Education College where this years Glasgow School of Art degree shows were the first occupants of the newly acquired and refurbished building. Only one 2016 graduate to see among the multiple floors of exhibitions but a great one it was by Samantha Dick
A massive thank you to #CAPetcAlumni Natasha Kemp, Karen Fleming, Natalie Doyle and Lynne McBride from the Reunification Collective for giving such an inspirational talk at their exhibition ETC…at Gayfield Creative Spaces. CAP1&2 colleagues were given great insight into what lies ahead for them in the coming years of developing as artists, getting used to crits and presentations, applying for art school, what to expect when they get there and the realities of life afterward.
All four artists have made fantastic starts to their careers and are involved with a great range of projects with highly respected art organisations and companies. Natasha who graduated from the painting school at ECAis working from her new studio in Dunfermline and is represented by a London based gallery. Karen also a painting graduate of ECA is working closely with the company behind Ocean Terminalto develop studio and gallery space as part of a new creative hub at the terminal site. Natalie a GSA environmental art graduate is currently at Stills Gallery and working on a new body of work and finally Lynne graduated from DJCAD fine art has recently taken up a key role on the committee of Generator Projects in Dundee and is working at Dundee Contemporary Arts. The AIRetc…. Contemporary Art Team are delighted to welcome our new Artist In Residence, Julie Duffy. Julie, who graduated from the HND at at the former Telford College in 2008 went on to gain a 1st class BA Hons Degree in Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD), is our eighth resident in the AIR studio.
Since graduating from DJCAD in 2011 Julie has developed new work and has exhibited regularly throughout Edinburgh including solo exhibitions at Summerhall and group shows at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. As well as developing her solo practice in sculpture Julie has more recently been developing collaborative practices with Hayley Mathers who as well as being a former AIRetc…. is also a graduate from DJCAD.
Julie is also an active member and former studio holder at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop where she has developed a curatorial role as a member of the 2 person TANK committee which is responsible for the programming of the TANK project and exhibition space at ESW.
Julie has already made a fantastic contribution to the HND CAP course by getting involved with studio / project crits and we are all really looking forward to the working closely with her over the next few months.
Julie will be blogging throughout her time as AIR and as always you can follow her progress on the AIRetc website. In the meantime you can find pout more about Julie and her practice by visiting her website:
