Theory & Context:

The Theory & Context programme is designed to prepare you for the academic aspects of degree level study.

Specifically designed in response to feedback from the 4 Major Scottish Art Schools / Universities, the programme will introduce you to appropriate academic research methods and skills within the context of your studies.

Year 1:

You will be guided in the use of appropriate research methods and skills to gain an understanding of historical and contemporary cultural developments that contribute to contemporary art practices. This will help you contextualise contemporary art practices in relation to historical events and cultural developments and cultivate an awareness of influences and contexts relevant to your studio practices/coursework.

Year 2:

You will advance your knowledge of art since c. 1900 and develop critical, evaluative and analytical skills in relation to understanding lasting significance of art trends and theory from c. 1900 to present.
